There seems to be a negative perception about Michigan’s recruiting efforts in the state of Texas.
Look, I don’t expect Michigan to ever start plucking guys left and right every cycle, but there are some key battles the Wolverines are more than capable of winning in the Lone Star State.
And now is the time to take advantage.
Michigan’s arch nemesis has been able to. The Buckeyes recently scored some monster victories in Texas, winning over borderline five-star guys like JK Dobbins, Baron Browning, Jeffrey Okudah and most recently Garrett Wilson.
The University of Texas may be coming off a Sugar Bowl victory, but the Longhorns have been in a flux over the last several years. They still need to show they can win consistently under Tom Herman.
Texas still isn’t officially back, and if the Longhorns don’t live up to preseason expectations this year, recruiting will remain an arms race. And do we really believe Texas A&M can win anything significant in the SEC? I would bet no.
The door is wide open.
