With the 2020 class almost full and September officially here, attention is starting to turn to the 2021 cycle.
Michigan has been hard at work over the last two weeks as the coaching staff now has the luxury of being able to initiate contact with prospects in the 2021 class.
The shift in focus obviously brings up one common question: Who are the most important targets in 2021?

It's a complicated question.
For me, most important doesn't necessarily mean the highest ranked. For example, five-star offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer is an important target, but he's more of a long shot. Michigan would do cartwheels if it landed him but wouldn't lose too much sleep if he sides with favorite Texas.
When looking to answer this question, I took into account priority on the Michigan board, realistic chances of landing said prospect and position. Then I drafted a list of about 10 and cut it down.
These are the five recruits that made the cut for my list of most important in 2021.
