CORNELIUS, N.C. — Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage sophomore linebacker Drake Thomas will always remember what school offered him first.

If he forgets the date, he can always look on his Twitter profile (@DrakeT32) where he has it pinned to the top of his page — Dec. 4, 2016. Thomas was among the top linebackers participating in the Rivals Camp Series presented by adidas on Sunday at Cornelius (N.C.) Hough High.

Michigan, Appalachian State, Charlotte, East Carolina, Houston, Marshall, North Carolina and NC State have offered Thomas. Virginia Tech, South Carolina and Duke are all showing interest, and could be the next wave of offers.

“That first offer has meant a lot,” Thomas said. “To go from not having any offers, to all of a sudden have a big offer like Michigan, it is such a big deal. I was really excited.”

The 5-foot-11, 218-pound Thomas has enjoyed forging a recruiting relationship with Michigan linebackers and special teams coordinator coach Chris Partridge.

“I keep in touch with him on a regular basis,” Thomas said.

Thomas was able to check out Michigan on an unofficial visit the weekend of April 8-9.

“I went up on a visit over spring break and liked it a lot,” Thomas said. “I got to see everything like practice, saw the facilities and saw the campus. I got to see the academic centers because I was up there for two days.”

Thomas is originally from Ohio but now lives in Wake Forest, which is just north of Raleigh. Thomas was able to watch the Wolverines play on television this past season, and hopes to one day make a return trip to Ann Arbor for a game.

“I got to see them play Florida State and Ohio State, plus a few other games,” Thomas said. “I saw them a good amount of time on TV. They move the linebackers around a lot. They have them come on blitzes a lot and are aggressive.”

Thomas plans to see some of the regional schools on his list and will be attending key games at NC State, where his brother will be a freshman on the team.

Thomas racked up 123 total tackles (86 solo), 17 tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception and four forced fumbles his sophomore year at Heritage High.
