Hoops: Martin to announce Friday

Valparaiso (Ind.) standout Scott Martin has apparently adjusted his timetable. Weeks after saying he'd likely announce in September or October, Martin has set a 4:00 press conference at his school to announce between Notre Dame, Michigan, Purdue, Texas, Maryland and Indiana.
Martin will announce in his high school cafeteria, according to the Northwest Indiana Times, and local columnists believe he'll pledge to Purdue ... in fact, all signs point to Rivals.com 91 player ending up a Boilermaker. Valpo High School and AAU teammate Robbie Hummel gave his verbal commitment to Purdue on Monday, while SYF AAU teammate E'twaun Moore also committed to the Boilers recently.

Michigan, of course, received recent commitments from Detroit Redford standout Corperryale Harris (Rivals.com No. 45) and a recommitment from Oak Hill Academy's Alex Legion (No. 38) earlier this week. The Wolverines remain strong with several class of 2008 targets, including Euclid (Ohio) St. Edward's Delvon Roe and Cincinnati Hughes big man Yancy Gates.
In other hoops news, U-M sophomore Jevohn Shepherd) has been selected as a member of the 15-member Canada Senior Men's National Team. The team will participate in three tours in three European countries this summer: Italy, Germany and Slovenia.
Team Canada will tipoff in Bormio, Italy, Friday through Sunday (July 21-23) in a four-team exhibition tournament with Greece, Serbia and Montenegro, along with host Italy. The Senior Men's National Team will then travel to Germany where it will play in a two-game exhibition series against the Germans in Hamburg on Friday (July 28) and Nuremburg on Sunday (July 30). The team will also compete in Maribor, Slovenia, playing in the International Alpos Cup Friday through Sunday (August 4-5) against Venezuela, Lebanon and Slovenia.
Shepherd makes it two straight years playing for a national team after he was invited to play in 2005 Nike Hoop Summit as a World Team member for Canada.
