Instant Recap: Michigan 91, IUPUI 54

IUPUI shot very well in the first half of a 91-54 loss to Michigan, going 46.4 percent from the floor and hitting some tough triples (in addition to some wide open looks). Michigan, though, was better. The Wolverines shot 65 percent from the floor, made 70 percent of their triples in the half and pulled away from a scrappy Indiana-Purdue squad.

U-M scored its first four points on inbounds passes from Trey Burke to Glenn Robinson III and Tim Hardaway Jr. before moving it outside. Robinson was deadly, making all six of his shots from the floor (two triples) in leading the way with 16 points. Burke knocked down a trio of triples, two bombs off screens from the top, and dished seven assists in 19 minutes.

IUPUI managed to keep it close with an 8-0 run after a Burke triple made it 23-14. Freshman Nik Stauskas' two triples and forward Jordan Morgan's timely hoops - a steal and dunk, followed by a crossover (yep) and finish helped the Wolverines open it up. They led 45-31 at the half despite playing lax at times defensively closing out on the three-point shooters.

Second half

Burke set up Robinson for a triple from the corner to open the half, and Michigan threatened to open it up. IUPUI, though, hit back-to-back triples to close within 13 at 52-39 before freshman Spike Albrecht finished a three-point play with a nice drive and finish. Stauskas gave up an and-one on the baseline to give it back and keep it reasonable at 15:10.

Michigan then started to pull away. Hardaway Jr. brought the crowed to its feet with a tough defensive rebound and coast to coast jam to make it 59-42 - a Burke triple from the top made it 62-44 at 12:19.

The Wolverines coasted from there with some highlight reel plays.

Stauskas faked and sidestepped for a triple that made it 67-46 (though he also got to the rim twice but failed to finish). Forward John Horford put it on the floor from the free throw line and threw it down for an and-one opportunity, Hardaway and Burke notched outstanding drives and finishes - once again the offense was working. Hardaway, too, was very good on the defensive glass, finishing with seven rebounds to go with 10 points.

Late triples from Albrecht, Corey Person and Eso Akunne capped the latest offensive onslaught. The Wolverines finished 33-of-55 from the floor 60 percent) and 13-for-21 from long range (61.9 percent), adding 18 assists to 13 turnovers.

Burke led the way for Michigan with 22 points and nine assists, while Robinson added 21 and six rebounds. Stauskas finished with 11 points, Morgan with 10 points and five assists.
