Detroit Cass Tech three-star safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell announced via Twitter that he had committed to Michigan. The 6-0, 180-pounder released a video outlining his final top group and then ultimately revealing that Ann Arbor would be his future home.

"First and foremost, that you God for giving the ability to reach my dreams," Kelly-Powell wrote. "I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, coaches, Cass Tech as a whole, Detroit Dolphins, Southfield Ravens, Max Ex, and RSR for helping get to this point. Special thanks to all the coaches that have recruited me. I truly appreciate you for showing how great your universities are. With that being said, I have decided that I will be attending the University of Michigan and look forward to early enrolling. Go Blue."

It's definitely not a secret that the No. 31 safety nationally and No. 8 player in Michigan chose the Wolverines but the timing seems to be a little earlier than what was expected. Kelly-Powell originally said that he'd like to wait until after the state championship game to make an announcement but that wouldn't have changed the outcome.

He's now expected to be on Michigan's campus

Kelly-Powell named Oregon, Virginia Tech, UCLA, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Michigan before ultimately throwing on the block M and Jordan brand U-M gloves to give the nod to the Wolverines.

His commitment not only helps at a position of need within the class, but as the cousin of Detroit Martin Luther King four-star corner Ambry Thomas and teammate of five-star wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones, things may be starting to roll with the talented Detroit trio.

Kelly-Powell and Cass Tech play this Saturday at 1 p.m. in the state semifinals against Utica Eisenhower but the newest Michigan commit hopes to catch the tail end of U-M's game against Indiana. He will also return to campus for an official visit over the weekend of Dec. 9-11.
