Lyte looking for opportunities

Farmington Hills (Mich.) Harrison has a long history of success on the gridiron - most recently winning a state title in 2010 - and the Hawks' 2015 squad could be a special one. The rising senior class has a number of top prospects. The most known of them is defensive end Khalid Kareem, who possesses over 20 scholarship offers already, but classmates are trying to garner attention of their own.
One such player is receiver/defensive back Tyrone Lyte. The 5-10, 160-pounder is able to be successful on the field despite a lack of ideal size.

"I'm probably not the average size for a [Division-1] receiver, but I'm fast," Lyte said. "I play the game smart, I've got a good game IQ. I've been playing since I was seven years old, and I study the game."
Lyte played primarily wideout as a junior last fall, making contributions for a Harrison team that went 10-3 and fell in the Division-2 state semifinals to Muskegon Mona Shores. Despite the majority of his film coming on the offensive side of the ball, his ability to play across the line of scrimmage is also something he hopes draws the attention of college coaches.
"Colleges will like the fact that I can play receiver, and that I can [also] play DB is helpful in getting their attention," he said. "I like receiver better, but I'm willing to play anywhere."
Harrison has sent players over the years to both in-state Big Ten Schools, with the 2012 class alone sending tight end/receiver Devin Funchess and defensive end Mario Ojemudia to Ann Arbor, and wide receiver Aaron Burbridge to East Lansing. It's no coincidence that those are the two schools Lyte grew up cheering for.
"The main schools I like are Michigan and Michigan State, I grew up rooting for both of them." he said. "They're schools that I haven't heard much from yet. When they played each other, I would pick Michigan State."
Although his relationships with both the Wolverines and Spartans are in their infancy stages, he's picked up a bit more attention from Michigan State. He visited campus for their game against the in-state rival last year, and has had a chance to meet coach Mark Dantonio.
"I was actually at their game [against Michigan] this year," he said. "I got to talk to Coach Dantonio, view the campus. I got a meet-and-greet, I didn't sit down and talk to him. Coach Salem comes up and talks to most of us: me, Khalid, a couple other players. He's telling me to keep my grades together."
Continuing to excel on the field and in the gridiron will make it only a matter of time before college opportunities arrive for Lyte.
