Malzone earns U-M offer and commits

Bloomfield Hills (Mich.) Brother Rice quarterback Alex Malzone has made no bones about it throughout the recruiting process: the three-star grew up a Michigan fan, and an offer from the Wolverines would be very tough for him to pass up. The trick for the Michigan coaching staff was less about convincing him to become a Wolverine and more about determining whether the nation's No. 16 pro-style passer was worthy of an offer.

Today, that decision was made. Malzone picked up an offer on a visit to campus, and wasted little time in accepting it.
"I'm very honored and blessed to say that I have committed to play football at the University of Michigan #GoBlue," he tweeted.
The 6-2, 205-pound Malzone just completed his junior year at Brother Rice, but already is a two-time state champion quarterback on the gridiron. He transitioned into a large role during the course of his sophomore season, and held the job all to himself as a junior. He impressed, completing 190 of 281 passes (67.6%) for 2795 yards (9.9 yards per attempt) and 25 touchdowns, while leading the Warriors to the first undefeated state championship since 1983, capping the career of retiring coach Al Fracassa.
He is also a star on the baseball diamond for Brother Rice, and will try to lead the Warriors to a Catholic League title at Comerica Park Thursday.
Malzone becomes the sixth commit in Michigan's 2015 class, and likely the only quarterback. His commitment pushes the Wolverines' recruiting class to No. 26 in the nation according to the Rivals.com team rankings, though all but one school (No. 24 USC) ahead of them has more pledges.
