Michigan head coach John Beilein has reportedly hired Illinois State assistant DeAndre Haynes to fill one of his coaching spots, despite the fact that he was just hired by the Redbirds in May.
NBA consultant and certified recruiting analyst Vince Baldwin sent out this congratulatory tweet.
Haynes, a Detroit native, played point guard at Detroit Southwestern High School, before enjoying a very successful career at Kent State. He won MAC Player of the Year as a senior in 2006, and left as the Golden Flashes’ all-time leader in assists and steals. He was also 12th in program history in points with 1,259, and his 114 career starts are second-most.
Haynes then went on to play professionally overseas for six years in FIBA Europe, with stops in Belgium, Hungary, Germany and Finland.
Haynes returned to his college alma mater as an assistant in 2012 for four seasons, before accepting the same position at Toledo last year.
Beilein recently lost assistants Jeff Meyer and Billy Donlon to assistant positions at Butler and Northwestern, respectively.
