Michigan Basketball: U-M Offers 2019 Guard Joe Girard III

Michigan head coach John Beilein has offered another 2019 prospect, this one to a familiar name.

Glen Falls, NY standout guard Joe Girard III scored 54 points in front of head coach John Beilein Friday night and picked up an offer from the coach Saturday morning.

Girard III made nine triples and hit seven of eight free throws to lead Glens Falls past Johnstown 91-71. He has 2,908 career points and needs 39 to surpass Lance Stephenson to become the all-time leading scorer in state history.

His father played for Beilein at LeMoyne College, and it stands to reason the Wolverines are in good shape here. Stanford, Notre Dame and Syracuse are among the teams that have shown interest, and he's at Penn State today for a visit.

Girard III shot 44.7 percent (55-of-123) from beyond the arc in spring Nike EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League) play last spring.

Watch for more on this development in the days to come ...
