Several Michigan commits made their way to Ann Arbor earlier this month for a big visit weekend, including All-American specialist Tommy Doman.
The gathering served as an opportunity for commits to meet face-to-face for the first time and really bond as a class. Doman, the No. 2 ranked kicker from Orchard Lakes (Mich.) St. Mary’s, gave the trip high marks.
“Overall, I thought it was a really big success,” Doman said. “By the end of the visit, I thought we had been playing for a little bit. On my drive home, I couldn’t have been more excited about playing with those guys. You use social media and talk a little bit over text, but we got to see each other in person.
" It was fun seeing everyone from around the country. It was like ‘oh, you say this. I don’t day that.’ Just the slang and stuff was really cool. It really did feel like we were a team.”
The commits spent the weekend tossing the ball around, touring campus, exploring around Ann Arbor and capped it off by watching the game together at a local eatery.
Doman said despite Michigan’s struggles against Wisconsin, the watch party was the highlight of his visit.
“Seeing Michigan struggle against Wisconsin, I was expecting to see guys maybe react a certain way,” he said. “But we took the negative as motivation to work harder before we get to Michigan and when we get to Michigan. I thought that was really cool. It was led by JJ (McCarthy). We all followed him. He said it’s how it goes. It’s football. When the next guy is up, you have to be ready to go. We all fed off that.”
