Former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson (2009-2012) made a guest appearance over the phone on the weekly Inside Michigan Football radio show, and talked about his time in Ann Arbor. Though he’s not on an NFL roster at the moment, Robinson also gave an update on where things currently stand in his personal life.
“The thing I liked most about Michigan is the time I spent with my teammates and coaches,” he said. “I had so much fun hanging at the Brown Jug — that was my spot.
“I also met my girlfriend — who I’ve now been dating for five years — while I was there. We’re actually getting married.”
The show’s host, J.T. Rogan, informed Robinson that he too is soon getting married. Rogan went on to say that Jim Harbaugh asked if he could read at his wedding.
“Does that mean I’m going to have to invite him to mine too?” Robinson laughed.
The former Michigan quarterback said he’d love to make it back to Ann Arbor sometime soon, but explained that he’s a bit occupied, due to the impending birth of his son.
Rogan suggested he bring his son to town for the Michigan/Ohio State game on Nov. 25.
“I don’t know, it’s going to be pretty cold up there,” he laughed. “But it would be perfect for us to come back for a game and enjoy Ann Arbor.”
While he’s still in the process of making plans for a return trip, Robinson said he still catches his beloved Wolverines every weekend on TV.
“I watch the games every Saturday,” he said proudly. “That’s always been my routine since I’ve left. Every time I get a chance to watch them, I do.”
He said he’ll be watching the team this Saturday when it travels to Purdue, and shared his own thoughts about playing the Boilermakers while he was there.
“It was always tough, but I don’t really know why,” he recalled. “Every time we played them it was tough sledding. On film they didn’t necessarily look that good, but once we got onto the field with them we realized how good they actually were.”
Finally, Rogan asked Robinson if he had any stories involving longtime equipment manager Jon Falk.
“Too many stories of Jon,” he laughed. “When I met him for the first time, he was giving me crap about being a freshman. We became good friends after a while — he would call me ‘Big D,’ and [former linebacker] Desmond [Morgan] ‘Little D.’ We’d always joke about who the bigger guy was.”
