Michigan Football: Jim Harbaugh Pushes Back On Friday Games

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh doesn't equivocate when it comes to college football and Friday nights. The two go together like athletes and skim milk, in his mind.

Harbaugh made clear once again his disdain for the incursion of college football on Friday nights, in his appearance yesterday on the Rich Eisen radio show. The host probed the U-M boss about the notion, and received a quick and clear answer.

Here is what Harbaugh had to say: "I am not for it — at all. Friday night is for high school football."

The Michigan coach noted there can be a reversal of course to what has been creeping into the college game.

"Sometimes the pendulum swings one way, and you do something that is not productive for the game of football," he said. "It has the ability to swing back the other way. No way is that set in stone, nor should it be … the opposition to playing college football games on Friday nights should be voiced."

Michigan will not be involved in any Friday games for the foreseeable future. This year's schedule features all Saturday games, with (at this point) five kickoffs slated for noon, the opener against Florida at 3:30 p.m. Eastern, and the road game against Purdue on Sept. 23 at either 3:30 or 4 p.m. Eastern.
