Najee Harris, the No. 1 recruit nationally out of Antioch (Calif.), has changed his plans and will fly home to Oakland before making his decision, he told USA Today.

He'll also have surgery at some point to repair a partially torn meniscus he's been playing with all year.

The American Family Insurance ALL-USA running back said he wouldn't make an announcement this weekend at the U.S. Army All-America Bowl in San Antonio, and he hasn't.

“I’m having surgery and after that …,” Harris said on the field after the Army Bowl. “I liked competing out here. Where I’m going is not a surprise. I’m just not telling y’all.”

USA Today reported that earlier in the week his mother, Tianna Hicks, asked Army Bowl officials to switch Harris’ flight Sunday from San Antonio to Birmingham. After the game Hicks said, “His momma wants him home in Oakland.”

Harris has been committed to Alabama since April 2015 but Michigan has made a very strong push. He started following several Michigan players on twitter and was wearing a Jordan Brand Michigan shirt on Christmas Day.
