VanSumeren just picked up his Michigan offer on Thursday and immediately set up an official visit for the weekend. He pledged to the coaches before leaving campus and then announced his commitment publicly once he returned home from the visit.

VanSumeren had originally committed to Western Michigan but flipped to Iowa after bigger schools began taking notice of him. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh was put on to the 6-3, 232-pounder and immediately fell in love with him as a player and offered last Thursday, Harbaugh, along with Jay Harbaugh and Greg Mattison, swung by Garber High School on Friday morning to show VanSumeren that the interest was legitimate and less than three days later, the versatile athlete is a part of Michigan's class.

Listed as an athlete, VanSumeren will line up as a fullback/H-back type for U-M but also has a lot of ability as a linebacker on defense. He'll sign with Michigan on Wednesday and will arrive in Ann Arbor with a similar skill set to another Ben — Ben Mason — who saw the field a lot as a true freshman in 2017.

VanSumeren is commit No. 17 for Michigan in the 2018 class and brings U-M's team ranking up to No. 16 in the country according to Rivals.com.
