Five-star wide receiver Nico Collins, one of Michigan’s top targets at his position, took an unofficial visit to Alabama over the weekend and is setting up other trips. Pinson (Ala.) Clay’s Collins (6-5, 193, Rivals.com’s No. four receiver and No. 23 player nationally) saw the Crimson Tide beat Texas A&M.

"It was good," Collins told AL.com. "I had a great time up there. The atmosphere was pretty live.

"They're just telling me how they need me bad. They really don't have a lot of receivers. Next year, they won't have the depth at receiver."

Collins also visited Georgia for its game against Tennessee, won by the Vols on a last second Hail Mary.

"It was a great game until the end. I thought Georgia had it until Tennessee came down with the Hail Mary. Other than that, it was pretty fun,” he added.

Collins plans to visit both schools again officially and will officially visit Michigan the weekend of Nov. 5.

"They're doing really good this season," Collins said of U-M. "I plan on having fun up there on my official visit, checking out the game day atmosphere."

He’ll see Florida State Nov. 26 weekend for the Seminoles' game against Florida and will visit LSU Dec. 9. He’s also planning an unofficial to Ole Miss next weekend. He told AL.com he has no leaders and no timetable for a decision.

Collins has hauled in 43 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns this year.

From Rivals.com in early October:

The latest: Georgia has an outside chance of landing Collins but the Bulldogs have not helped themselves this season. For the time being, it seems like a battle between Alabama and Michigan. What helps Michigan is the fact that Alabama is involved with a number of top-level wideouts, including five-star Jerry Jeudy, who is already committed to the Tide. The Wolverines are more prepared to sell playing time to Collins and could hold an ever-so-slight advantage.

The prediction: Michigan – Rob Cassidy

Mike Farrell’s Pick: Alabama
