Northville (Mich.) High senior kicker Jake Moody has announced via Twitter that he will attend Michigan.
Moody had full-ride opportunities, including from Central Michigan, that he was heavily considering. The Chippewas finished second to U-M and Moody admitted that he went back and forth in his head quite a bit about what he should do.
"It was really tough because of the people at Central Michigan," Moody said. "All of the coaches were great, and it felt like one big family there. But I had a gut feeling and I’ve always wanted to go to Michigan, so that’s why I chose Michigan."
The 6-0, 175-pounder chose U-M and is fine with how it's expected to play out.
"Coach [Chris] Partridge came to my school and gave me a few options," Moody explained. "If scholarships open up, I’ll do a blueshirt and be on scholarship this fall. If not, I’ll greyshirt and come in January on scholarship most likely."
Moody has worked out with former Michigan kicker Brandon Kornblue and his kicking academy and the scouting report on the in-state kicker is strong.
"Jake is currently ranked as the Fab 50’s top nationally ranked kicker for the class of 2018. Without question, he is an FBS scholarship kicker. He has attended our camps, training sessions, and private lessons throughout his high school career. We have seen him continue to develop and improve, all while demonstrating a serious work ethic and humble, but very confident attitude. Jake also takes his academics seriously, as he is part of the National Honor Society.
"During his senior season, he drilled field goals from 58, 57, and 55 yards in games off a 1/2-inch block. The 58 yard field goal is the 2nd longest in Michigan state history. He holds the state record for most made field goals in a high school career.
"His field goals and kickoffs continue to dominate every time he attends our camps. At our October 2017 Michigan Fab 50 Camp, his kickoffs consistently charted 75-plus yards with 4.0 seconds plus of hang time. He won the field goal competition with a 55 yarder.
"Kicking is his strength but Jake is also a solid punter. His best punt at the most recent camp charted 4.58/48 yards."
