Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point four-star tight end Mustapha Muhammad announced via Twitter that he has committed to Michigan.

The 6-5, 225-pounder has been at or near the top of Michigan's tight end board for some time and after taking many visits, both officially and unofficially, he decided that he was finally ready to pull the trigger. He was originally going to wait until closer to National Signing Day but decided that now was the time.

Muhammad had been considering offers from Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA and USC but had always been viewed as a Michigan lean. Things started off well back when Jay Harbaugh was still coaching tight ends and U-M never relinquished the top spot.

Michigan now has two tight ends committed in the 2018 class in Muhammad and Hamden Hall (Conn.) Hamden Hall Country Day School three-star Luke Schoonmaker. The Michigan staff had been planning on taking at least two tight ends all along and now have them in Schoonmaker and Muhammad. Recently offered three-star Tommy Tremble out of Norcross (Ga.) Wesleyan is also still on the board and likes Michigan a lot despite having two fellow tight ends in the fold. Muhammad's commitment brings U-M's total up to 15 in the 2018 class and as the No. 19 tight end in the country boosts the class ranking up to No. 25.
