Michigan has moved up in the national recruiting rankings.

The Wolverines raced past Oregon and now sit at No. 6 in the 2021 Rivals team recruiting rankings after landing a commitment from four-star Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro defensive end Quintin Somerville this weekend.

Somerville committed to Michigan over offers from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Stanford, UCLA, Washington and several other major programs.

Somerville was a heavily recruited prospect early on in his recruitment. However, as schools began to fill up and explore other options, the door became increasingly open for Michigan to make a move.

The Wolverines started to surge in his recruitment last month, and Michigan defensive line coach Shaun Nua closed the deal, scoring an important win on the trail.

Michigan now has 18 commitments in its 2021 recruiting class.

Somerville joins Rivals100 linebacker Junior Colson, Rivals100 quarterback JJ McCarthy, Rivals100 offensive lineman Giovanni El-Hadi, Rivals100 tight end Louis Hansen, Rivals250 offensive lineman Raheem Anderson, Rivals250 offensive lineman Greg Crippen, four-star defensive end Kechaun Bennett, three-star linebacker Casey Phinney, All-American specialist Tommy Doman, three-star cornerback Ja'Den McBurrows, three-star wide receiver Markus Allen, three-star safety Rod Moore, three-star offensive tackle Tristan Bounds, three-star linebackers Tyler McLaurin and Jaydon Hood and rising defensive linemen TJ Guy and Dominick Giudice.

Michigan now has a total score of 1,904. Every team ranked ahead of Michigan nationally holds more commits at this time except Clemson and USC.

Here is a look at The Big Ten rankings:

1. Ohio State

2. Michigan

3. Minnesota

4. Iowa

5. Rutgers

6. Wisconsin

7. Penn State

8. Maryland

9. Northwestern

10. Nebraska

11. Michigan State

12. Indiana

13. Purdue

14. Illinois

Michigan is fewer than 100 points behind Florida, Clemson and USC in the overall rankings, which means a Top 3 class is within striking distance.

The commitment of Somerville awarded Michigan 127 points.

Somerville is ranked as the No. 5 weak-side defensive end and No. 151 overall prospect in the country, per Rivals.com.

Somerville is the fourth defensive line commit this cycle.
