After an outstanding junior season on the bump for head coach Tracy Smith and the Michigan Wolverines, Connor O'Halloran was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fifth round of the 2023 MLB Draft on Monday. The Mississauga, Ontario native will soon return to his home country as he looks to work his way through the Blue Jays' farm system.
O'Halloran was a huge bright spot on a Michigan team that didn't have much going for it in the 2023 season. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound hurler quickly established himself as not only the team's ace, but as one of the better pitchers in the conference, too.
In his junior campaign, O'Halloran posted a record of 8-6, an ERA of 4.11, and an opponent batting average of .231. He pitched 103 innings in 17 appearances during the 2023 season, and he recorded 110 strikeouts compared to just 26 walks.
O'Halloran's numbers were good enough to earn him the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year award. He became the third U-M player to ever win the award and the first since Zach Putnam in 2008.
The Blue Jays selected the Michigan ace in the fifth round of the 2023 MLB Draft on Monday, marking the 11th consecutive season in which a Wolverine has been drafted.
