Michigan basketball took a kick to the groin this week.
Twice. In 13 hours.
As of Monday evening, 2020 five-star power forward Isaiah Todd (No. 14 overall) was verbally committed to Michigan, and the Wolverines were the favorite to land 2020 five-star shooting guard Joshua Christopher (No. 11 overall) after a rollercoaster recruitment. However, by Tuesday morning, Christopher had (surprisingly) pledged to join his brother at Arizona State, and Todd had (unsurprisingly) decommitted to play professionally overseas before the NBA.
One could have gone to bed on Monday night believing that Michigan would have two top-15 recruits in its 2020 class and slept in only to wake up to learn that Michigan no longer had any.
As a result, it has been a dispiriting week for the Wolverines and how high next season’s ceiling may be (if there is a season anyway). It has made Michigan an easy target for criticism or mockery, which is only magnified by the trickle of sports news amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, that’s why it is even more important to maintain a level head and perspective.
