The 2019 Michigan Wolverines football team is now well into fall camp, and several freshmen have already impressed. Defensive coordinator Don Brown said yesterday he got a glimpse of the future when three of them lined up together on one play.
"[Cornerback] D.J. Turner, [safety] Daxton Hill and [linebacker] Anthony Solomon, those are three really good players," Brown said. "One snap yesterday they all lined up on one side of the field in coverage and I was like, ‘wow.’ The ball snapped, guys were moving and I’m saying, ‘those three guys are pretty nifty.’ I look at those guys as real bright stars for the future of Michigan football."
Of those three, expect Hill to play a role this year. Offensive linemen and Ohioans Nolan Rumler and Zach Carpenter are both over 300 pounds, have impressed and (we believe) will play some this year (though maybe not more than the four games allotted to preserve their redshirts). As for impact freshmen, though ... here's our list.
1. Safety Daxton Hill —The unanimous five-star recruit out of Tulsa, Okla., has all the tools needed to compete as a freshman, and he’ll have every opportunity to crack the two deep. He can run, cover, hit and has an innate ability to get to the ball and make a play.
He’s similar to former Michigan standout and five-star Jabrill Peppers in many respects, especially in his feel for the game. He will likely see action on both special teams and defense from the get-go.
