Bump Elliott — the nephew of former U-M head coach Bump Elliott (1959-68) — joined this week's 'Attack Each day' podcast to talk about his Ann Arbor field hockey team, which includes Jim Harbaugh's daughter, Addie, on it.

The crew also discussed this past weekend's thrilling win at Northwestern, and the high number of U-M fans that were in attendance.

Recruiting coordinator Matt Dudek, on the resilience the team showed on Saturday:

"There was no quit or stress in them. The encouragement from the coaches to the players was also impressive — there was never any worry. We knew we were going to get it right, and we saw it little by little, with it obviously being capped off in the fourth quarter."

Matt Dudek, on the number of Michigan fans at Northwestern:

"Coming out of the tunnel there and seeing how many Michigan fans were in the crowd was incredible. I saw a lot of maize and a lot of blue when I first walked out, but it didn't necessarily register.

"In the second half, you started hearing the 'Go Blue, Go Blue,' chants and I was thinking how it basically felt like a home game. It was like Michigan Stadium West.

"I got chills from our fans being there for us, and I've never experienced that on the road before. The Michigan fans never cease to amaze me — you hear about it growing up, but the traditions and the alumni base made themselves felt on Saturday."

Jim Harbaugh:

"My daughter Addie's field hockey team wins with numbing repetition. I don't know a lot about field hockey, but I'm learning.

"Wherever the coach [Bruce Elliott] says the ball is about to be, that's where it goes. It's like an orchestra — it's choreographed and precision is at the highest level.

"I try to get 22-year olds and 30-year olds to do something ... how do you do it, [Bruce]? The 10-year olds listen to you, but I've certainly never had them listen to me."

Jack Harbaugh:

"I was at one of the field hockey games recently and it was close at halftime. I told Addie they may have a chance to lose, and she said, "No. We haven't lost in four years and we're not going to lose now."

Bruce Elliott:

"One of the things that makes it easier coaching field hockey is very few parents understand the rules or the strategies. It's tough to comment about coaching or decisions when they don't know what's going on."

Jim Harbaugh:

"[My son] Jack plays for the [flag football] Vikings and they were facing the 49ers on Sunday, who has [strength and conditioning coach] Ben Herbert's son on it.

"I saw the name on the back of his jersey, and at first wondered if he was related to Ben. Then another kid ran by with Backus on his jersey.

"Then I saw Dave Brandon there too, who has a grandson on the 49ers team."

Bruce Elliott, on his playing days at Michigan under Bo Schembechler:

"Bo was a disciplinarian and a tough guy. I was fortunate enough to play for him, and for Jim Young, who was the defensive coordinator at the time.

"Dick Hunter was the secondary coach there and also did a great job, and Jerry Hanlon was on the staff and did great things with the offensive line.

"The night of Bo's big win over Ohio State [in 1969] was actually the same day I had my first date with my wife."
