West Bloomfield (Mich.) High three-star inside linebacker Cornell Wheeler has announced via Twitter that he has committed to Michigan.

Wheeler picked up his Michigan offer quite a while ago back in February. As a lifelong U-M fan the Wolverines quickly jumped to the top of his list. The stout and athletic linebacker has been to Ann Arbor many, many times and grew more and more comfortable with the idea of sporting the winged helmet each time. Wheeler never released a top group but did hold offers from Indiana, Iowa State, Minnesota, Missouri and Syracuse making U-M seem pretty tough to beat from day one. Once Wheeler witnessed U-M obliterate Nebraska, he knew he wanted to be a part of a team and a defense like that.

Wheeler is pledge No. 5 in Michigan's 2020 class joining Columbus (Ohio) Northland three-star wide receiver Kalil Branham, Belleville (Mich.) High three-star cornerback Andre Seldon, Aurora (Ill.) West Aurora four-star defensive tackle Denver Warren and San Antonio (Texas) San Antonio Christian three-star tight end Nick Patterson.

At 6-0, 229 pounds, Wheeler is considered the No. 9 inside linebacker in the country and No. 7 player in the state of Michigan. Because of his size, Wheeler will likely never be viewed as an elite prospect but he's extremely smart, reliable and always finds himself around the ball making tackles.
