"The initial shock that you’re going to have this [procedure] done, and then when you wake up and realize what just happened to you ... your heart’s been stopped for a long period of time, and you have been carved open. You just think about, ‘Wow, what just happened?’ and it’s great. The doctors were incredible, but you realize that was literally life-changing for everybody."
