It’s not often that Michigan looks to Louisiana for recruiting talent.
Pulling top prospects from ‘The Boot’ can prove to be extremely tough for out-of-region schools, but Michigan decided to throw its hat in the ring for rising 2021 Lafayette (La.) Comeaux athlete Malik Nabers earlier this week.
“It was humbling to get that offer,” Nabers said. “Michigan was one of my favorite schools as a sophomore. It meant a lot to get that offer. Coach (Bob) Shoop saw my highlights and in five plays, he said he knew he wanted me on his team.”
New Michigan safeties coach Bob Shoop has experience recruiting in the south. After all, Shoop previously served as defensive coordinator at both Mississippi State and Tennessee.
Shoop’s track record before arriving in Ann Arbor was a big selling point for Nabers.
