Rivals250 DE Quintin Somerville Commits To Michigan

Michigan has landed yet another commitment during the dead period.

This time around, the Wolverines scored a verbal pledge from Rivals250 Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro defensive end Quintin Somerville, who announced his decision on Saturday.

"Big Ten football is definitely my thing," Somerville said "The defense out there is really different than out here. It is a real game out there. You can just tell. Living out here, football is not as important here is it is out there, and it is just great football."

Arizona defensive lineman Quintin Somerville is committed to Michigan Wolverines football recruiting, Jim Harbaugh.

Somerville committed to Michigan over offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Stanford, UCLA, Washington and several other major programs.

While Somerville is out West, he built an extremely strong relationship with area recruiter and Michigan defensive line coach Shaun Nua. The two spoke on a regular basis over the last couple of months, and Nua was able to seal the deal.

Somerville publicly made his decision this weekend, but he actually gave Michigan a silent commitment several weeks ago. Michigan made him a top priority, and he felt wanted in Ann Arbor.

Somerville is looking to make a visit to Michigan as soon as the dead period comes to an end.

A four-star prospect, Somerville recorded 68 tackles, including 29 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks en route to leading Arizona powerhouse Saguaro to an 11-2 record.

“He is a big-bodied defensive end,” said Rivals national analyst Adam Gorney. “That’s what I think he’s going to be long-term. He’s an athletic kid. He’s not super powerful at this point, but he can develop that. He can play in space. He’s very good off the edge. He can dominate that way.”

Somerville is the fourth defensive lineman in Michigan’s 2021 recruiting class, joining fellow four-star prospect KeChaun Bennett, three-star recruit TJ Guy and under-the-radar prospect Dominick Giudice.

At 6-foot-3, 233 pounds, Somerville is ranked as the No. 5 weak-side defensive end and No. 151 overall prospect in the country, per Rivals.com.
