Michigan has added another key piece to the puzzle.
After a flurry of commitments over the last two weeks, Michigan earned a verbal pledge from Rivals250 offensive lineman Raheem Anderson this weekend.
The Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech product picked Michigan over offers from LSU, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Purdue, West Virginia and others.
Michigan already has a center commitment in fellow Rivals250 prospect Greg Crippen, but Anderson is a candidate to play guard at the next level. Michigan liked them enough as pure interior offensive linemen to take both this cycle.
Anderson is a big, physical mauler in the interior of the trenches and had a strong junior season for Cass Tech, leading the tradition Detroit power to a deep run in the state playoffs.
Michigan offensive line coach Ed Warinner and tight ends coach Sherrone Moore were both heavily involved in Michigan’s recruitment. But it might have been head coach Jim Harbaugh that pushed the Wolverines over the edge.
Harbaugh had a video chat with Anderson on Thursday and once it became clear that he was viewed as a priority target, the four-star prospect wasted no time pulling the trigger.
Anderson is the eighth commit in Michigan’s 2021 recruiting class, which ranks in the Top 10 nationally.
Anderson is also the third offensive line pledge in the class. The Wolverines could take up to six at the position this cycle.
Of Michigan’s eight commits, three are in-state prospects. Anderson joins Rivals100 offensive lineman Giovanni El-Hadi and All-American specialist Tommy Doman.
