Three of Michigan's 2018 signees were part of the main attraction for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl last Saturday but a 2019 Wolverine pledge was also in the house. Louisville (Ky.) Trinity four-star weakside defensive end Stephen Herron was invited to San Antonio for the underclassmen combine and stuck around for the game on Saturday. The 6-4, 225-pounder really liked what he saw out of his three future teammates.

"I saw my boys really compete," Herron said. "I saw Jalen Mayfield basically throwing dudes like Micah Parson and [Ronnie] Perkins over there.

"[Aidan] Hutchinson came out with like two or three sacks — whatever the stat was. Over one sack for an All-American game is crazy. My man went off.

"My man [Cameron] McGrone was very impressive all week and picked up a starting spot. He did exactly what he was supposed to do.

"They all really did what they were supposed to. I just wanted to be here and support Go Blue and just enjoyed watching them. I wish we had a few more dudes up here but it is what it is. I really like what I saw out of my boys and I can’t wait to join them in the next couple of the years.

"I actually texted Coach [Greg] Mattison about how good the dudes did during the game. I can’t wait to get up there and learn from him."

Herron enjoyed spending some time with the 2018 signees but is growing very close with his fellow 2019 commits.

"I talk to my dudes everyday almost," he said. "I talk to Chris Hinton all the time. I actually talked to him the other day on the phone. We’re all pretty happy and none of us seem to be wavering right now."

Herron is also working on convincing others to pledge to the Wolverines.

"I’m trying to get Chris Steele to come. He’s really interested right now but he’s out in Cali so that’s tough," Herron explained. "I just want to bring as many talented guys as I can with me to Ann Arbor.

"I’ll be trying to flip guys too. I would love to flip a guy like Kardell Thomas because I just don’t think he’s happy with LSU right now. He seems like he’s been wavering a little bit. He’s been posting Florida State and Georgia stuff. I’m just trying to get everybody."

As a solid pledge, Herron isn't focusing much on his recruitment but he is excited to get back to Ann Arbor in the near future.

"Our spring break is a little different at Trinity so it’s hard to line up stuff like that. We have a holiday break during Christmas time and then we also have a week during winter break in another couple of weeks. It’s really just a short break for the teachers and students. I may come up during one of those random times so I can hang out with the coaches and see how everything is going," Herron explained.

"I really just can’t wait for all of us to get up there and really succeed. The team struggled a little bit this year. I think we just need to get the offense rolling and get some offensive dudes up there and we’ll be good. I really think with how Coach [Jim] Harbaugh has recruited we could be set up for a national championship type of team soon."

Herron is the No. 3 weakside defensive end and No. 43 overall prospect nationally. With an impressive offseason and another stat-filled senior campaign he could push for five-star status.
