Talbott brothers commit to Michigan

Two commitments, one household ... if only recruiting always worked that way. Michigan got pledges Friday night from both Terrence Talbott and Terry Talbott of Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne, filling needs at two key positions.

Terrence is a 5-10, 172-pound cornerback prospect with offers from Cincinnati, UConn, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin, among others, while his brother is a 6-4, 265-pound defensive tackle with offers from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Illinois, Michigan State, NC State, UCLA, Wisconsin and others.

"We were so shocked it happened so quickly," said their mother, Tasha. "They had a scrimmage last night, and after the scrimmage they talked to Coach [Rich] Rodriguez and Coach [Chris] Singletary to let them know."

A late, great visit at the end of July made the difference.

"At first I didn't think they were going to commit so soon, but ever since they came back from Michigan, that's all they've been talking about," their mother said. "They were really impressed, and instead of waiting and deciding, they just decided to commit. They loved the visit ... they loved the Big House, the academics ... they were really impressed with everything."

Head coach Jay Minton offered glowing reviews on both of his players back in June, following a spring visit from linebackers coach Jay Hopson.

"He got to come down here and see them work out because we do morning workouts," Coach Minton said. "When you see these two young kids work out, you have to get excited about them. They are high energy, explosive and they go hard. Then, you see their film and their film is pretty exciting too. It seems like [Michigan] is trying to build on more quick kids and explosive kids, and I think Jay sees where they have all those things."

The 6-4, 265-pound Terry Talbott is listed as a defensive tackle by Rivals.com, but he can play anywhere on the defensive line according to Coach Minton.

"I think he does have the ability to move inside if he has to," Coach Minton said. "Terry's 265 right now and he's very explosive. He's got great change of direction speed and runs to the ball well. He bench presses 405, and I think he's got the ability to play inside with that strength."

Terrence Talbott, meanwhile, possesses 4.47 speed in the 40-yard dash and bench presses 300 pounds.

"Terrence has great hips and is a real good cover guy," Coach Minton said. "We had a guy here, Mike Mickens, who was with [The University of] Cincinnati and now is with the Dallas Cowboys. Mike is a little taller than Terrence, but they are much the same type of athlete. Terrence has a 39-inch vertical leap, so he plays taller than he actually is. He's got great closing speed and he's a great open field tackler."
