U-M's leading scorer a year ago with 50 points, on 19 goals and 31 assists, Hagelin was named captain last spring. Considered one of the top defensive forwards in the country, he boasts a plus/minus of +57 in his three-year career.
Caporusso has led Michigan in goal scoring each of the past two seasons, with 24 markers in 2008-09 and 21 goals in 2009-10. During last year's seven-game postseason winning streak, the Woodbridge, Ont., forward had eight goals and four assists. He is considered a Hobey Baker Award candidate.
Rust centered Michigan's top line throughout the 2009-10 campaign (flanked on the left side by Hagelin) and was third on the team with 40 points, including a career-high 27 helpers. Perhaps pound-for-pound the strongest skater on the team, the 5-10, 194-pounder will join Caporusso as an alternate captain this year.
Michigan will begin its 26th season under head coach Red Berenson when it welcomes Mercyhurst to Ann Arbor this Saturday. The Wolverines will then play Western Ontario in an exhibition game before jumping into conference play with a trip to Bowling Green Oct. 8-9.
