Apart from a surprising finish to its season, the Michigan Baseball team struggled in 2022. The Wolverines finished with a 12-12 Big Ten record and hardly finished above .500 on the season.
However, the 2022 woes weren't exactly a true representation of the level of talent on the roster. Through two days of the 2022 MLB Draft, the Wolverines have had three selections — Clark Elliott, Joe Stewart and Cameron Weston.
Elliott was the first Wolverine selected. On Sunday night, the Oakland Athletics selected Elliott with the 69th overall pick in the draft. The Barrington, Ill. native batted .337 in his junior season as the leadoff man for the Wolverines.
He recorded 16 home runs this past season and drove in 69 runs. Elliott will now have his chance to work his way through Oakland's farm system.
Weston was the next Wolverine off the board at pick number 227. The junior finished the 2022 campaign with a 5-4 record and a 4.74 ERA on the mound. Weston started 11 games for Michigan in 2022 and made appearances in 20 total games.
In his only season at Michigan, Joe Stewart dominated at the plate, and his impressive season earned him a spot with the Los Angeles Angels. Stewart hit .349, launched 13 home runs and recorded 56 RBIs in his monster campaign.
After transferring to Michigan from rival Michigan State, Stewart helped the Wolverines to a season sweep of his former team.
Stay tuned for more updates as the 2022 MLB Draft continues on Tuesday.
