Insight On JJ McCarthy
Michigan holds a commitment from Rivals100 quarterback JJ McCarthy, who is expected to compete at the position as soon as he arrives in Ann Arbor.
I caught up with private quarterback coach Greg Holcomb to get his thoughts on McCarthy, his offseason training, how soon he can get on the field at Michigan and more.
On what McCarthy has progressed on this offseason:
“As I look at him, he’s gotten a lot stronger. I don’t mean from a brute strength standpoint. He seems to be driving the ball with more power. He looks the part of a Big Ten quarterback at this point. Obviously, it’s a physical development thing. His body is transforming. Every time I see him, he looks more like a Division I athlete. He’s developing in his muscle mass and his tone. He’s growing into himself. He’s turning into a young man. That’s transitioning onto the field with some of the power I see. Quite honestly, I thought he would have thrown the ball better today, but he just makes some throws that most guys don’t. He’s 17 years old. He’s got so much more to go. I think it’s going to be a huge transformation from now until he gets to Michigan.”
