Michigan Basketball: Wolverines Offer Four-Star 2018 Race Thompson

Michigan continued its pursuit of 2018 blue-chippers Friday in offering 2018 four-star forward Race Thompson. Thompson told TheWolverine.com last month he was impressed with the U-M program and his potential fit.

“College coaches really like me being able to stretch the floor out and being able to take the ball up the court," he said.. "They tell me I’m a good passer. I see the court really well and that’s the main thing, just being versatile.

“I have a pretty good shot. I can shoot pretty much anywhere from the three-point line in.”

That's one of the reasons he planned a Michigan visit.

"I don't have a date yet," he said. "But I like how successful they have been, and I would be a good fit in their system."

Thompson averaged 13.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game through four contests in Fort Worth at the adidas gauntlet. Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana picked up their pursuit after the event, and IU and Providence both offered.

Thompson will likely cut his list down to four or five schools at some point before making a decision and will pledge some time after AAU season is over [July] but before football season starts. He said he doesn't have a list of favorites at this point, still open.

"I want to fit in the playing style and feel like I’m at home," he said. "That’s the main thing .. and feel like a family in the locker room.”

Per The Gopher Report, Rivals.com's Minnesota site:

"Race Thompson has long been a priority of both Iowa State and Minnesota. Iowa State may be the favorite, as Thompson has built a great relationship with the Iowa State coaching staff.

"The high three-star grew up in the Twin Cities and his father Darrell, a former Gopher running back, is a radio analyst for Gopher football. Thompson has maroon and gold in his blood, but similar to Hurt, TGR doesn't believe his family connections to Minnesota are as influential as many assume."
