Quinn Nordin Is Working Hard On His Craft

Many athletes have taken unique measures to try and prepare for the 2020 football season to the best of their ability. Michigan fifth-year senior kicker Quinn Nordin has gone the extra mile(s).

Nordin, who took over kicking duties after battling with junior Jake Moody last year and made his last 10 kicks, spent five weeks in Florida with former Michigan kicker Brandon Kornblue of the esteemed Kornblue Kicking School. The results were outstanding.

"He was down here five weeks. He went home for a couple weeks then ended up calling me, trying to do some film sessions for his resume, those kind of things," Kornblue said. "He realized he could just come down there. At that time, the weather was still kind of rough up there."

But it was perfect in Florida, and Kornblue also had access to strength equipment and other devices to help Quinn train.

Nordin's goal is to win not only the placekicking job, but also the kickoff duty Moody has handled the last two years. Kornblue posted one of his pupil's kickoffs of 80-plus yards with a 4.3-second hang time.

"Altogether, it made sense for him to come on down," Kornblue said. "He was excited, and he did well. I think he improved in all three phases, spent time punting a little bit, too.

"If he gets a shot at the next level, they'll expect him to do field goals and kickoffs. As good a job as Jake has done ..."

The competition should be fierce this fall.
