NationalFootballPost.com NFL draft analyst Dion Caputi was kind enough to swing by TheWolverine this week and break down the combine performances of the two Michigan Wolverines defensive football prospects — viper Khaleke Hudson and safety Josh Metellus — who participated in drills in Indianapolis.
Caputi explained what he likes about each prospect, while also discussing each of their draft stocks moving forward.
Khaleke Hudson
“Athletically speaking, there was a lot to like about him heading into the combine. Players who are plus athletes for their positions tend to do very well.
"Transferring from safety to linebacker puts him a cut up above from an athleticism standpoint, and it showed in a lot of the drills.
"Hudson ran a 4.56, which is an impressive time for any linebacker — cracking the 4.6s is a monstrous time for anybody.
"He put up 30 bench press reps and has beefed up and gotten stronger, so there is a lot to like about what he offers you athletically.
"I think he is a little bit of a tweener, but we’re seeing more value put on that dime linebacker, hybrid safety/linebacker position.
"Instead of being a guy without a true position, he now becomes a little bit more valuable than that and there is a defined role for guys like him at the next level.
"Hudson displayed a lot of really good natural abilities and a lot of the tools that make him a good fit in the NFL.
