Michigan offensive coordinator/line coach Tim Drevno will be leaving the U-M football program, per several sources.

Drevno took heat for last season's performance in which the offense struggled mightily, especially to move the ball against better teams and to protect the quarterback. The Wolverines allowed 34 sacks and had two quarterbacks hospitalized with injuries. Wilton Speight left the Purdue game and was lost for the season with a back injury, while Brandon Peters missed the second half of Wisconsin and the Ohio State game with a head injury.

The Wolverines were eighth in the Big Ten in scoring offense and No. 9 in total offense last season, down from No. 1 and No. 4 respectively in 2016 when the offense averaged 40-plus points per game. U-M managed only 25.2 points per game a season ago.

Former Ohio State offensive coordinator and line coach Ed Warinner, brought in as an offensive analyst, would be the obvious choice to replace Drevno as line coach. He's had success at a number of stops, most recently at Minnesota with P.J. Fleck.

Former Florida coach Jim McElwain, hired Sunday as wide receivers coach, was always expected to help coordinate the offense, and he could very well have that duty added to his title.

Watch for more on this development in the hours to come ...
