The New York Jets selected former Michigan cornerback Jeremy Clark with the 197th overall pick in the sixth round of the NFL draft. Clark was injured on Sept. 24 this past season against Penn State, and missed the rest of the season.

There was some talk that he would be eligible to return in 2017 for a sixth season, but the NCAA denied it.

The 6-3 defensive back originally came to Michigan as a safety, but transitioned to cornerback later on in his career. He compiled 49 tackles and three interceptions during his time in Ann Arbor. Before he was lost for the season this past year, he racked up 10 tackles and two pass breakups.

The 2015 season was Clark’s best in a winged helmet, as he made six starts and led the team in interceptions with three.

Clark became the 11th Wolverine drafted, breaking the all-time school record of 10. His selection also pushed Michigan past Alabama for the most players selected, with the Crimson Tide currently having 10.

ESPN’s Todd McShay spoke about Clark’s skillset.

“I had five Michigan games this year, and at one point I legitimately looked into getting an apartment in Ann Arbor,” he joked. “Jeremy Clark got off to a great start this season but wound up getting injured. He’s had some injuries before, and he petitioned to the NCAA to get a sixth year of eligibility, but they said no.

“So now he’s in the NFL draft and I’m glad to see him get picked because he has ability, and it came on late. He’s 6-3 and change, 220 pounds, and can be a press-man corner, but struggles with instincts and needs more game experience and more work. But the Jets have something to work with here, and I think he could be a sub package press-type corner.”
