The Denver Broncos made Jake Butt the No. 145 pick of the NFL Draft, stopping the tight end's slide in the draft following a torn ACL in the Orange Bowl in December.
Butt becomes Michigan's tenth player drafted in 2017, tying a record for the team. Ten Wolverines were selected in both the 1972 and 1974 drafts, when there were 17 rounds.
As a senior, Butt had 46 receptions for 546 yards and four touchdowns. Butt scored 11 touchdowns in his Michigan career and broke the program record for career receiving yards by a tight end. He was named the John Mackey Award winner for 2016 as the nation's top tight end.
The Broncos are still looking for a tight end to fill the shoes of Julius Thomas who left the team after the 2014 season.
"I think he can be a Tyler Eifert type in the NFL," EPSN draft expert Todd McShay said. "The comparison works from a size standpoint, mobility, agility. He's 6'5", 256 pounds. He does not have elite speed, but he's a really good route runner and I think he has outstanding ball skills."
