2022 Detroit Cass Tech four-star defensive tackle Deone Walker, a top Michigan target, was dominant in his team's season-opening 49-22 victory over Southfield (Mich.) High at Wayne State University. Walker played both ways and earned the Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic Iron Man Award.
2022 Germantown (Tenn.) High four-star Michigan commit Kody Jones is primarily a defensive back, but that doesn't mean he can't get it done on the offensive side of the ball too. Jones rushed for a 52-yard touchdown in a 28-23 win over Memphis (Tenn.) University Saturday.
Houston Texans rookie quarterback Davis Mills found former Michigan wideout Nico Collins, who trucked a defender to power into the end zone, for a nine-yard touchdown in the team's 23-16 preseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Meanwhile, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, another former Wolverine, was named as the No. 7 player in the NFL 100, the list of the top 100 players in the league as voted on by the players. In his squad's win over the Texans Saturday, he went 11-for-14 for 154 yards and one touchdown.
Michigan football's countdown to kickoff continues. Yesterday marked one week until the Wolverines open up the 2021 campaign against Western Michigan (Sept. 4 at noon ET at The Big House).
